Name of Activity: Professional Development Workshop
Description of Activity: La Paloma College Prep offers professional development seminars for school guidance counselors covering the specific needs of the typical foster youth. These presentations highlight the challenges faced by foster youth such as difficulty maintaining school records for this highly mobile population and lower standardized achievement scores. These workshops also provide information on resources available to foster care youth to help with the cost of post-secondary education. It is our hope that through colloboration, we can more effectively prepare foster care youth for post-secondary education.

Name of Activity: La Paloma College Prep After School Presentation
Description of Activity: La Paloma College Prep provides presentations tailored to students in After School Programs. Information provided in these presentations include: the benefits of post secondary education, steps toward post secondary education, available financial aid (including completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and researching scholarships), completing college applications, and etc.. Presentations include a variety of guest speakers from local colleges and/or trade schools.
Participants: Students grades 9,10,11,12
Restrictions: Students attending Amphitheater or Flowing Wells Unified School districts and youth living in the 85705 zip code. However, informational packets will be made available to any interested youth.

Description of Activity: La Paloma College Prep provides Family College Information Night workshops that take place at La Paloma Family Services Administrative Office. Information provided in these presentations include: the benefits of post secondary education, steps toward post secondary education, available financial aid (including completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and researching scholarships), completing college applications, and etc.. Workshops include a variety of guest speakers from local colleges and/or trade schools.
Audience: Students grades 9,10,11,12 and Parents
