The ASU Advantage

Description: ASU Advantage is the university's commitment to supporting Arizona students from low-income families, by covering the direct costs of attendance with financial aid that does not require repayment. ASU will cover students' direct costs (minus the Expected Family Contribution) for eight full-time, consecutive semesters. Direct costs include tuition, feeds, room, board and books.

Eligibility Criteria (e.g., GPA, majors, full-time or part-time enrollment, specific populations, schools or geographic areas): 1) Arizona resident, 2) enter ASU beginning the fall semester immidiately after Arizona high school graduation, 3) admission to ASU as a degree-seeking freshman beginning the fall semester (pursuing first undergraduate degree), 4) Native American high school seniors that meet the Arizona residency criteria for tuition purposes at ASU are eligible, 5) demonstration of total family income of $25,000 or less on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for eligible students entering in the fall, 6) full-time enrollment, 8) program participation extends for eight full-time, consecutive semesters.

Scholarships

Description: ASU offers a variety scholarships, gift assistance awarded on the basis of merit and/or need, do not have to be repaid. Need-based scholarships require completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To find a list of scholarships available for entering freshmen, continuing students, graduate and law students, go to http://students.asu.edu/scholarships/search.

Description: Grants are gift assistance awarded to qualified undergraduate students demonstrating exceptional financial need (i.e., grants are need-based aid). Grants do not have to be repaid as long as enrollment for the semester in which you receive the grant is maintained.

Student Loans

Description: Loans are funds provided to a student (or a student's parent in the case of a PLUS loan) for educational expenses. Loans require repayment. Loans are the last type of aid for which you are considered, after gift aid and Work-Study. Student loan programs offer favorable terms reserved for students. Interest rates are lower than typical consumer rates and you may have an interest-free grace period before repayment begins. ASU offers Federal Perkings, Federal Direct Stafford, Federal PLUS and alternative loans.
